About This Module

AFRECAP empowers African academic institutions by delivering tailored Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training and workshops. We guide universities and research centers in fostering ethical research practices, covering integrity, data management, authorship, and compliance with global standards, equipping scholars to uphold excellence and accountability in their work. Through interactive workshops, train-the-trainer programs, and customized institutional curricula, AFRECAP equips scholars, administrators, and ethics committees to uphold excellence, accountability, and trust in African research ecosystems.

Module Details

AFRECAP equips scholars, administrators, and ethics committees to uphold excellence, accountability, and trust in African research ecosystems through interactive workshops, train-the-trainer programs, and customized institutional curricula on:

  • Research Integrity and Misconduct: Defining fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism; case studies on real-world consequences; and strategies to promote honesty in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Data Management and Sharing: Best practices for accurate data acquisition, secure storage, retention policies, and ethical sharing to ensure reproducibility and transparency.

  • Authorship and Publication Ethics: Guidelines on fair authorship credit, avoiding predatory journals, managing conflicts of interest, and navigating peer review processes.

  • Collaborative Research: Protocols for equitable international partnerships, intellectual property rights, and cultural sensitivity in multi-institutional projects.

  • Human and Animal Subjects Protection: Compliance with ethical review boards (IRBs/IACUCs), informed consent procedures, and minimizing risks in clinical and behavioral studies, and

  • Mentorship and Peer Review: Responsibilities of mentors and trainees; constructive, unbiased peer review; and conflict resolution in academic settings.
