Professor Masresha Fetene is a Professor of Plant Ecophysiology at Addis Ababa University. He served as Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at the university for six years, during which he spearheaded the expansion and strengthening of graduate studies by introducing new academic programs, enhancing quality through visiting scholar schemes, and fostering research consortia. He forged numerous partnerships and international research collaborations that significantly advanced the university’s research capacity and output. For over seven years, Professor Fetene served as Director of Addis Ababa University Press, where he transformed the publishing house by markedly improving both the quality and diversity of its scholarly publications. He led the establishment of Ethiopia’s national journal accreditation system and provided critical support to help several national research journals thrive. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Professor Fetene organized and delivered numerous grant-writing workshops for early-career faculty across Ethiopian universities, while promoting the development of efficient research systems and infrastructure. Notably, he introduced a highly acclaimed series of training workshops on the Responsible Conduct of Research that received widespread positive reception. Prof Masresha has published extensively and trained tens of masters and PhD students.
