Dr. Solomon Bililign is a professor of Physics at North Carolina A&T State University, and he has been active in research and education since joining NCA&T in 1993. His area of specialization includes Experimental and Theoretical Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics /and Chemical Physics. Since Joining NCA&T Bililign has conducted collaborative research at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and University of Connecticut. He was a NIST-JILA visiting fellow in 2000-2001 a visiting professor at the University of Marseille in France (2003) and an adjunct professor at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (2009-present) and recently a Fulbright Scholar at Addis Ababa Ethiopia in 2024-2025.
Bililign’s recent research has focused on both indoor and outdoor air quality and the health impacts in Africa. He built research capacity in chemical physics and atmospheric sciences at NCA&T with a combined federal grant of over 25 million. He has submitted over 160 single and collaborative proposals through his Career. Bililign’s recent research has focused on both indoor and outdoor air quality and the health impacts in Africa and organized and conducted several workshops on African Air quality in both the US and Africa. His work pioneered the characterizing chemical and optical properties of African biomass emissions in the laboratory. He has published over 70 publications in peer reviewed high impact journals.
